Exploring Lightwater Country Park – Nature & Family Fun

One thing I’m absolutely loving about life in the UK right now? The parks. Oh. My. Word. The parks! They’re clean, they’re gorgeous, and they’re safe.

Lightwater Country Park is one of those hidden gems that has everything you need for a chilled family morning (and by “chilled” I mean semi-chaotic with snack requests, lost socks, and someone crying).

Ducks + Dirty Shoes = Happy Kids

The first thing we did when we arrived? Ran straight to the pond to feed the ducks. Lily loves ducks.

After that, we went into the outdoor playground (it’s fenced) and it’s actually really decent! Big climbing frames, swings, nets, drums.

Forest Walks for the Win

There are SO many little trails and paths here, winding through the forest and around the lakes. And here’s my top tip: download the AllTrails app before you go. Because trust me, it’s easy to start out on a “quick loop” and end up on a 5km endurance mission with a snack-deprived toddler and a dog who is now dirty, muddy and shaking it all over us every few minutes.

The beauty though? You can make the walk as long or short as you want. There are wide, pram-friendly paths, or more wild, muddy ones if you’re wearing your Hunters.

Caffeine Cafe

There’s a little café on-site with coffee, snacks, and ice cream – because bribery is part of motherhood and we all know it. Toilets are close to the café too (again, essential). There’s also free parking.

For the Dog Moms

Lightwater is totally dog-friendly. Loads of dog walkers. Just be mindful of nesting birds during certain seasons – there are signs asking for dogs to be on leads in those areas.

Mom Tips Before You Go:

  • Bring snacks. Then bring more snacks.
  • Layers. The weather changes quickly.
  • Spare socks. Just trust me.
  • Binoculars or a bug box. It turns a simple walk into a mini adventure.
  • Wipes. (This should go without saying by now.)

Lightwater Country Park was the perfect mix of outdoorsy fun, easy parking, and wide-open space for wild little legs and paws.
