My Journey

Why I Share My Personal Life on a Blog (Even If It Feels a Bit Crazy)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a thing for notepads and pens. My happy place was scribbling thoughts in a journal, even when they made zero sense. Sometimes I’d just write for the sheer joy of writing.

But there’s always been this deeper pull… A nagging voice to write about my life. My real life – the messy, unpredictable, imperfect bits. I tried to ignore it. I really did. I told myself it would be too embarrassing, too weird, too personal. Who wants to read about me?

I mean, what if someone actually read it and thought I’d completely lost the plot? (I sometimes think that too when I read my drafts back🤪)

At 19, I finally gathered the courage to start my first blog and published my stories. I was blown away by the response. Strangers reached out with heartfelt messages – not just encouraging words, but stories of how my writing had touched them, even helped them. One of my articles was even featured in a women’s magazine.

Then, in 2020, I lost it all. The website, the edits, the years of content… gone. I was devastated. But strangely, it felt fitting as I felt as though I’d outgrown it, it belonged to a younger version of me: hopeful, sweet, maybe a little naive. So I just left it.

But the need to write and share – that part of me never left. Once again I tried to fight it, but in the back of my mind there was always a niggling and I regularly caught myself trying to come up with a new name to start blogging again. Then one day – an Instagram reel mentioned a site that tracks old archived websites, and just like that, I FOUND some of my content. It was unedited and outdated, but it reignited something in me. The inspiration returned and overnight, a new name came to me – Chasing the Light.

And of course, I’ve asked myself all the questions:
Why do I want to share this?
Who even cares?
What if I seem unhinged?
What if I contradict myself or say the wrong thing?
What if my vulnerability is just… too much?

But I’m slowly learning to trust that little voice inside. The one that nudges me to write and share, even if my writing isn’t polished or perfect or profound.

Because, honestly, other people’s blog posts have saved me. Sometimes I’ve typed in the most random sentence into Google – something I was feeling, or a thought I couldn’t untangle – and landed on someone else’s story that made me feel “Okay. It’s not just me.”
Like someone out there had felt what I was feeling, and suddenly, I didn’t feel so weird, broken or alone.

So maybe that’s the reason, maybe I share my life because words connect us.
Because writing heals. Because if even one person stumbles across my ramblings and feels better or less alone… then maybe my little corner of the internet has done something good.

So yes – maybe I’m a little crazy. But I’m okay with that.
This is me, showing up, with my musings and messy humanity.

Welcome to the madness 💛
